The MICE & Events industry is growing in Singapore, meaning jobs and career opportunities are abundant. Careers exist as Event Managers, Wedding Planners, Staging Managers, Event Sales and International Conference Planners. For dedicated students with aspirations for a rewarding tourism career, this Diploma course offers valuable interactive learning combined with practical experience and skills.

The course is aimed at providing participants with the knowledge and skillset to successfully gain employment at a supervisory or management level within the MICE & Events industry in the future.

This course will also provide a broader understanding of the Tourism industry as a whole in Singapore, and the importance that MICE & Events plays in this sector.

Course Hours

The duration of the WSQ Diploma in Tourism (MICE and Events Operations) is 379 hours:

  • Core - 190 hrs
  • Electives - 161 hrs
  • Assessment - 28 hrs

 

Mode of Instruction

Instruction may include lectures, discussions, excursions, guest speakers, demonstrations, case-studies, practical exercises and activities.

Core Units
A trainee must complete at least 8 core units leading to at least 21 credits

 

Elective Units
PLUS a trainee must complete at least 6 elective units leading to at least 17 credits
In addition, there is a 2hr (nominal) assessment for each unit.

Assessment and Course Completion

Assessment

Competency Based Assessment for this qualification may include Practical Performance, Role Plays, Oral Questioning, Workplace Observation, Written Questions, Industry Research Projects and/or feedback from workplace Supervisors.

 

Course Completion Criteria

Attendance for WSQ Courses

  • Student Pass Holders are required to maintain a class attendance of 90% and above as per Immigration & Checkpoints Authority of Singapore (ICA) requirements.
  • Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents and International students holding a DP/LTVP are required to maintain a class attendance of 75% and above.

Unit Competency
• Achieve 'Competent' for all units 

 

Certification and Articulation

Certification
Upon successful completion of this WSQ course, trainees will receive a WSQ Diploma in Tourism.

Articulation
For progression, participants may wish pursue the William Angliss Institute’s Higher Education programmes.


Entry Requirements and Eligibility

Entry Requirement

  • WSQ Advanced Certificate in MICE and Events or
  • Two (2) years work experience at the supervisory level in the tourism sector or
  • WSQ ES Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) Level 7 or equivalent

Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents and International Students are eligible to apply for the WSQ Diploma in Tourism (MICE and Events ) course.
