Overview

This is a Management level qualification requiring students to complete 14 Competency Units (8 Core units and 6 Elective units) and attain at least 39 credits.

Students will gain knowledge and become competent in skills from a broad range of highly-developed management skills specific to the Tourism industry.

 

Course content includes coverage of essential financial, human resource, operations management skills as well as a selection of supplementary knowledge (selected to meet industry and/or individual need) drawn from business finance, human resource management, sales and marketing and travel services.

TH-BF-401C-0 Develop and Implement Business Strategies (40 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in developing and implementing business strategies and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Evaluating status of business
  • Developing and implementing business plan
  • Developing and implementing policies and/or procedures
  • Evaluating business strategies.

TH-BF-402C-0 Comply with Legal Requirements (12 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in complying with legal requirements and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Liaising with regulatory agencies
  • Acquiring licences and permits
  • Complying with regulations.

TH-BF-403C-0 Develop and Implement Budget (40 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in developing and implementing budget and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Developing budget
  • Managing accounting and cash controls
  • Auditing financial procedures
  • Implementing budget.

 TH-HRM-401C-0 Manage Training (24 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in managing training and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Conducting training needs analysis
  • Developing training plan
  • Implementing training plan

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills hiring staff and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Making Job Offer

TH-HRM-403C-0 Appraise/Evaluate Staff (16 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in Appraising/Evaluating staff and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Plan/Schedule Performance Appraisal
  • Conduct Performance Appraisal
  • Encourage Staff Development
  • Using Rewards or Recognition Systems

TH-HRM-404C-0 Handle Terminations, Dismissals and Resignations (24 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in handling terminations, dismissals and resignations and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Terminating Employees
  • Dismissing Employees
  • Processing Resignations

TH-RM-401C-0 Manage Loss Prevention (10 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in managing loss prevention and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Developing loss prevention policies and procedures
  • Managing pilferage
  • Controlling damage or spoilage

There are 6 Elective units in the WSQ Diploma in Tourism (Travel Services) course:

TH-BF-408E-1 Manage Pricing and Revenue (32 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in managing pricing and revenue and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Establishing information on revenue management
  • Developing pricing strategy for product/service
  • Implementing and managing pricing strategy.

TH-HRM-405E-0 Establish Human Resource Management Plan (32 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in establishing human resource management plans and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Developing human resource plan
  • Monitoring human resource plan
  • Rewarding and recognising staff.

TH-SM-402E-0 Develop Marketing Strategies (40 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in developing marketing strategies and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Designing new products and/or services
  • Determining pricing structures
  • Developing bundling/packaging of products and services
  • Developing promotional strategies
  • Developing loyalty programmes.

TH-SM-404E-0 Develop Relationships with New Corporate Clients (25 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in developing relationships with new corporate clients and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Developing prospect lists
  • Qualifying potential clients
  • Attending networking functions
  • Establishing contact with potential clients.

TH-TOU-401E-0 Manage Tour Guide Services (16 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in managing tour guide services and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Setting up cash controls and financial reporting procedures
  • Developing tour policies and procedures
  • Evaluating tour guide services.

TH-TRS-401E-0 Manage Travel Operations (24 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in managing travel operations and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Managing operations
  • Contracting services.

Target Audience
This qualification is suitable for:

  • Travel Operations Trainee Manager.

Entry Requirement

  • WSQ Advance Certificate in Tour and Travel Services or
  • Two (2) years work experience at the supervisory level in the tourism sector or
  • WSQ ES Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) Level 7 or equivalent

Eligibility
Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents and International Students are eligible to apply for the WSQ Diploma in Tourism (Travel Services) course.

Assessment
Competency Based Assessment for this qualification may include Practical Performance, Role Plays, Oral Questioning, Workplace Observation, Written Questions, Industry Research Projects and/or feedback from workplace Supervisors.

Course Completion Criteria

Attendance for WSQ Courses

  • Student Pass Holders are required to maintain a class attendance of 90% and above as per Immigration & Checkpoints Authority of Singapore (ICA) requirements.
  • Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents and International students holding a DP/LTVP are required to maintain a class attendance of 75% and above.

Unit Competency

  • Achieve 'Competent' for all units

Certification
Upon successful completion of this WSQ course, trainees will receive a WSQ Diploma in Tourism.

Articulation
For progression, participants may wish pursue the William Angliss Institute’s Higher Education programmes.

Mode of Instruction
Instruction may include lectures, discussions, excursions, guest speakers, demonstrations, case-studies, practical exercises and activities.

Duration of Course
The duration of the WSQ Diploma in Tourism (Travel Services) course is 387 hours:

  • Core - 190 hrs
  • Electives - 169 hrs
  • Assessment - 28 hrs

WSQ course assessment hours for each unit are approximately 2 hours.

Mode of Delivery
The WSQ Diploma in Tourism (Travel Services) is a part-time course delivered over 15 Months with two 4 hour evening classes per week.

Average teacher-student ratio
1 teacher to a maximum of 20 students.

Less 70% SSG Grant * $  8,316.60
Nett WSQ course fee $  3,564.30
