Overview

The WSQ Certificate in Tour and Travel Services is an Operations level qualification requiring students to complete 7 Competency Units (3 Core units and 4 Elective units) and attain at least 15 credits.

Students of the WSQ Certificate in Tour and Travel Services will gain knowledge and become competent in skills from a broad range of highly-developed operational skills specific to the Tour and Travel services industry.

The WSQ Certificate in Tour and Travel Services course includes coverage of critical safety, security and guest interaction skills. This WSQ course also provides a selection of supplementary knowledge (selected to meet industry and/or individual need) drawn from risk management, sales and marketing, tour operations, travel services, and service excellence.

TH-RM-101C-1 Work Safely (12 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in working safely and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Maintaining safe work environment
  • Moving object safely
  • Using equipment safely
  • Following directions for handling hazardous materials

TH-RM-102C-1 Provide Safety and Security for Guests

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in providing safety and security for guests and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Following safety and security practices
  • Responding to emergencies
  • Providing lost and found services
  • Protecting privacy of guests

TH-SM-101C-0  Interact with Guests (16 hrs)*

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in interacting with guests and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Maintaining professional appearance and attitude
  • Providing quality service
  • Addressing concerns

TH-SM-102E-0 Promote Tourism (16 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in promoting tourism and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Obtaining tourism resources
  • Promoting Singapore

TH-TRS-101E-0 Acquire Travel Industry Knowledge (20 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in acquiring travel industry knowledge and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Describing types of travel
  • Describing travel terms
  • Describing world geography
  • Describing IATA codes
  • Understanding time zones and flying times
  • Describing travel insurance

TH-TRS-102E-0 Handle Air Ticketing Reservations (40 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and applications kills in handling air ticketing reservations and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Make airline ticket reservations
  • Issue tickets and invoices
  • Handle refunds and cancellations
  • Handle travel visas

TH-TRS-105E-0 Provide Outbound Travel Packages, Products and Services (24 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in providing outbound travel packages, products and services and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Preparing to work
  • Identifying travel requirements
  • Making travel arrangements
  • Finalising travel arrangements

Entry Requirement

  • WSQ ES Workplace Literacy and Numeracy Level 4 or equivalent

Eligibility
Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents and International Students are eligible to apply for the WSQ Certificate in Tour and Travel Services course.

Assessment
Competency Based Assessment for this qualification may include Practical Performance, Role Plays, Oral Questioning, Workplace Observation, Written Questions, Industry Research Projects and/or feedback from workplace Supervisors.

Course Completion Criteria

Attendance for WSQ Courses

  • Student Pass Holders are required to maintain a class attendance of 90% and above as per Immigration & Checkpoints Authority of Singapore (ICA) requirements.
  • Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents and International students holding a DP/LTVP are required to maintain a class attendance of 75% and above.

Unit Competency

  • Achieve 'Competent' for all units

Certification
Upon successful completion of this WSQ course, trainees will receive a WSQ Certificate in Tour and Travel Services

Articulation
For progression, participants can pursue a WSQ Advanced Certificate in Tour and Travel Services (Supervisory level) and a Diploma in Tourism (Managerial level).

Mode of Instruction
Instruction may include lectures, discussions, excursions, guest speakers, demonstrations, case-studies, practical exercises and activities.

Duration of Course
The duration of the WSQ Certificate in Tour and Travel Services is 154 hours:

  • WSQ course Core units -     40 hrs
  • WSQ course Electives   -   100 hrs
  • WSQ course Assessment - 14 hrs

WSQ course assessment hours for each unit are approximately 2 hours.

Mode of Delivery
The WSQ Certificate in Tour and Travel Services is a part-time course delivered over 6 Months with two 4 hour evening classes per week.

Average teacher-student ratio
1 teacher to a maximum of 20 students.

Less 90% SSG grant * $3,326.40
Nett WSQ course fee $   369.60
