Overview

The WSQ Advanced Certificate in Tour and Travel Services is a Supervisory level qualification requiring students to complete 9 Competency Units (4 Core units and 5 Elective units) and attain at least 26 credits.

Students of the WSQ Advanced Certificate in Tour and Travel Services will gain knowledge and become competent in skills from a broad range of highly-developed supervisory skills specific to the Tour and Travel services industry.

The WSQ Advanced Certificate in Tour and Travel Services course includes coverage of essential financial, loss prevention, staff training and staff supervision skills.

This WSQ course also provides a selection of supplementary knowledge (selected to meet industry and/or individual need) drawn from sales and marketing, tour operations and service excellence.

TH-BF-301C-0 Monitor Income and Expenses (24 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and application skills in monitoring income and expenses and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Establishing control systems for income and expenses
  • Monitoring income, expenses and control systems
  • Administering petty cash systems
  • Reviewing financial records.

TH-RM-301C-0 Implement Loss Prevention (10 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in implementing loss prevention and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Applying loss prevention policies and procedures
  • Monitoring loss prevention
  • Evaluating loss prevention guidelines.

TH-HRM-301C-0 Conduct Orientation and Training (32 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in conducting orientation and training and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Conducting orientation
  • Planning training session
  • Conducting training
  • Evaluating training.

TH-HRM-302C-0 Supervise Staff (40 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in supervising staff and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Rostering staff
  • Conducting briefings
  • Directing work of others
  • Conducting on-the-job supervision
  • Providing feedback to staff
  • Addressing staff performance concerns
  • Resolving employee conflicts
  • Monitoring timesheets and allowances.

TH-SM-301E-0 Implement Marketing Strategies (40 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in implementing marketing strategies and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Implementing promotional strategies
  • Implementing advertising strategies
  • Participating in trade/consumer shows and exhibitions
  • Implementing public relations strategies

TH-SM-303E-0 Develop Sales Proposals (40 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in Develop Sales Proposals. These include:

  • Prepare for sales presentations
  • Makes sales presentations
  • Conduct site visits/inspections
  • Overcome objections
  • Cross-sell products and services
  • Develop proposals
  • Negotiate contracts/letters of agreement
  • Follow up on sales.

BM-SM-311E-1 Write Proposal (20 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in Writing Proposals and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Identify proposal objectives based on understanding of customer needs.
  • Gather and collate information to support proposal development.
  • Draft proposal in accordance with proposal outline.
  • Refine proposal in consultation with relevant stakeholders.

TH-TOU-301E-0 Co-ordinate Tour Operations (16 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in co-ordinating tour operations and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Confirming product and optional component bookings
  • Providing support for emergency situations.

SVCF-IR-301C-1 Manage Service Performance (16 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in Writing Proposals and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Recognise the importance of organization’s service standards in attaining service excellence
  • Assess gaps between actual service performance and organisation’s service standards
  • Communicate service performance levels to motivate team to achieve service excellence
  • Monitor service performance levels for effectiveness of actions taken.

Target Audience

Depending on the Competency Units this qualification is suitable for:

  • Travel Services Supervisor.

Entry Requirement

  • WSQ Certificate in Tour and Travel Services or
  • Two (2) years work experience at the operations level in the tourism sector or
  • WSQ ES Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) Level 6 or equivalent

Eligibility
Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents and International Students are eligible to apply for the WSQ Advanced Certificate in Tour and Travel Services course.

Assessment
Competency Based Assessment for this qualification may include Practical Performance, Role Plays, Oral Questioning, Workplace Observation, Written Questions, Industry Research Projects and/or feedback from workplace Supervisors.

Course Completion Criteria

Attendance for WSQ Courses

  • Student Pass Holders are required to maintain a class attendance of 90% and above as per Immigration & Checkpoints Authority of Singapore (ICA) requirements.
  • Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents and International students holding a DP/LTVP are required to maintain a class attendance of 75% and above.

Unit Competency

  • Achieve 'Competent' for all units

Certification
Upon successful completion, the trainee will receive a WSQ Advanced Certificate in Tour and Travel Services. 

Articulation
For progression, participants can pursue the WSQ Diploma in Tourism (Managerial level).

 

Mode of Instruction
Instruction may include lectures, discussions, excursions, guest speakers, demonstrations, case-studies, practical exercises and activities.

Duration of Course
The duration of the WSQ Advanced Certificate in Tour and Travel Services is 270 hours:

  • WSQ course Core units -  106 hrs
  • WSQ course Electives -    146 hrs
  • WSQ course Assessment - 18 hrs

WSQ course assessment hours for each unit are approximately 2 hours.

Mode of Delivery
The WSQ Advanced Certificate in Tour and Travel Services is a part-time course delivered over 6 Months with two 4 hour evening classes per week.

Average teacher-student ratio
1 teacher to a maximum of 20 students.

The WSQ Certificate in Tour and Travel Services course has the following course fees:

Gross WSQ course fee $6,050.00
Less 90% SSG grant * $5,445.00
Nett WSQ course fee $   605.00
