Overview

The WSQ Certificate in Attractions is an Operations level qualification requiring students to complete 7 Competency Units (3 Core units and 4 Elective units) and attain at least 15 credits.

Students of the WSQ Certificate in Attractions will gain knowledge and become competent in skills from a broad range of highly-developed operational skills specific to the tourist attractions industry.

The WSQ Certificate in Attractions course includes coverage of critical safety, security and guest interaction skills. This WSQ course also provides a selection of supplementary knowledge (selected to meet industry and/or individual need) drawn from risk management, sales and marketing, service excellence and programme delivery.

There are 3 core units in the WSQ Certificate in Tour and Travel Services course and the Unit Synopsis for each one is listed below.

TH-RM-101C-1 Work Safely (12 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in working safely and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Maintaining safe work environment
  • Moving object safely
  • Using equipment safely
  • Following directions for handling hazardous materials

TH-RM-102C-1 Provide Safety and Security for Guests

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in providing safety and security for guests and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Following safety and security practices
  • Responding to emergencies
  • Providing lost and found services
  • Protecting privacy of guests

TH-SM-101C-0  Interact with Guests (16 hrs)*

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in interacting with guests and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Maintaining professional appearance and attitude
  • Providing quality service
  • Addressing concerns

There are 4 Elective units in the WSQ Certificate in Attractions course and the Unit Synopsis for each one is listed below.

TH-PDL-102E-0   Provide Visitor Information (24 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in providing visitor information and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Developing background knowledge about site
  • Gathering and recording visitor information statistics
  • Orientating visitors to attraction site
  • Assisting groups
  • Outlining public programmes and schedules
  • Providing directions.

TH-PDL-103E-0   Deliver Tours (40 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in delivering tours and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Preparing for tour
  • Greeting participants
  • Delivering commentary
  • Keeping track of participants
  • Concluding tour.

TH-SM-102E-0   Promote Tourism (16 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills in promoting tourism and be able to apply them to the workplace. These include:

  • Obtaining tourism resources
  • Promoting Singapore.

SVCF-PL-101C-1 Implement Operations for Service Excellence (16 hrs)

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge of implement operations for service excellence and be able to apply them to the workplace.
These include:

  • Recognising the role that one plays in the service value chain
  • Acquire information commonly sought by organisation’s customers
  • Deliver service as part of a team according to the organisation’s service standards
  • Escalate service performance issues that affect the organisation’s service standards

The training hours listed above do not include assessment hours/Nominal assessment hours for all units are approximately between 2  hours.

The WSQ Certificate in Attractions is suitable for:

  • New entrants to the Attractions industry

This qualification is suitable for:

  • Attractions Officer

Entry Requirement
WSQ ES Workplace Literacy and Numeracy (WPLN) Level 4 or equivalent.

Eligibility
Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents and International Students are eligible to apply for the WSQ Certificate in Attractions course.

Assessment
Competency Based Assessment for the WSQ Certificate in Attractions may include Practical Performance, Role Plays, Oral Questioning, Workplace Observation, Written Questions, Industry Research Projects and/or feedback from workplace Supervisors

Course Completion Criteria

Attendance for WSQ Courses

  • Student Pass Holders are required to maintain a class attendance of 90% and above as per Immigration & Checkpoints Authority of Singapore (ICA) requirements.
  • Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents and International students holding a DP/LTVP are required to maintain a class attendance of 75% and above.

Unit Competency

  • Achieve 'Competent' for all units

Certification
Upon successful completion of this WSQ course, trainees will receive a WSQ Certificate in Attractions.

Articulation
For progression, participants can pursue a WSQ Advanced Certificate in Attractions (Supervisory level) and a WSQ Diploma in Tourism (Managerial level).

Mode of Instruction
Instruction may include lectures, discussions, excursions, guest speakers, demonstrations, case-studies, practical exercises and activities.

Duration of Course
The duration of the WSQ Certificate in Attractions is 150 hours:
Core - 40 hrs
Electives - 96 hrs
Assessment - 14 hrs
WSQ course assessment hours for each unit are approximately 2 hours.

Mode of Delivery
The WSQ Certificate in Attractions is a part-time course delivered over 6 Months with two 4 hour evening classes per week.

Average teacher-student ratio
1 teacher to a maximum of 20 students.

The WSQ Certificate in Attractions course has the following course fees:

Gross WSQ course fee $3,552.00
Less 90% SSG grant * $3,196.80
Nett WSQ course fee $   355.20

*The SSG Grant is only applicable to Singaporeans and PRs
